The Gospel

Have you ever wondered, “What is the Gospel?” The Gospel is the main point of the Bible. The word "Gospel" means Good News. That is an understatement. The Gospel is the best, most incredible message in all of the world, ever declared. It is the most important truth that you will ever confront. Through the Gospel we learn the truth about God.

God, in His love and kindness created a world and He created people. In the beginning, He walked with people and gave us a beautiful world to enjoy. When Adam and Eve made the choice to do what God said not to do, they sinned. This sin made them no longer clean enough to be in the presence of the Holy God. Human beings had returned evil for all of God's goodness. And that has not changed. The truth about people is that "...all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…"(Romans 3:23). No one has lived a perfect life. We lie. We lust. And most horribly of all, we love other things more than we love God. And sinning against God in just one area makes us guilty of breaking the entire law. "For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it."(James 2:10). We have all sinned. And the punishment for sin is death and eternal separation from God's goodness. Since we have sinned against God, justice is bad news for us.

The fair cost of choosing sin over God's goodness is extremely high. He is a good and just judge, so His plan does not just make evil go away as though it is no big deal. Instead it requires that equal payment be made for every horrible act against Him. That's what makes the good news so incredibly good. God saw that it was impossible for us to live up to the standard that being in relationship with Him requires. So out of love, and for His glory, He sent us a solution. A Savior. God doesn't lower the bar on righteousness. Instead, He Himself, through His Son Jesus Christ, pays the expensive price for our enormous sins.

Jesus is the Good News. Jesus lived a perfect life, earning the holiness that we need to be in relationship with God. We now have access to all of God's good promises- and this access is free! We can't buy it or even earn it. But though this gift is free to us, it was not cheap. It cost Jesus His very life and He endured the gruesome penalty that we deserve. This was God's plan of redemption to save us. And it demands a response.

So what is your response? Will you repent of (that means give up) your sins and believe in Jesus to receive His gift? Or will you choose to keep your sin and reject God? Throughout the Bible we see God's patient endurance of the disrespect and hatred shown to Him- despite the goodness and loving-kindness that He has shown. This will not last forever. One day all of us will be judged for the evil that we have done. There are only two places where our sin against God can be repaid- in hell or by Jesus's death on the cross. For those who reject the gift of Jesus’s payment, they are choosing to face judgment based on their own goodness. They are saying “I don’t need Jesus, I’ve lived a perfect life on my own.”

As people, we have failed, but God in His love, has a plan. Good News. If you would like to accept His gift today, repent and pray for God to forgive your sin, trusting in Jesus. If you have done this or if you have questions, please let us know so that we can pray for you by filling out the prayer card below. Please don't leave this site without forgiveness for your sins through Jesus Christ and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
